HABITATS:
THE POWER OF The PATAGONIAN OCEAN
Oct 23 '22 - Oct 21'23  (13 Days Expedition - 10 places)

Wildlife from Puerto Pirámides to Camarones

The fragility of nature makes us rethink the way we relate to it. This experience will make us discover inhospitable places where the protagonists will be the Penguins, Whales, Elephant Seals, Sea Lions, Birds…

A two thousand km road in Patagonia connects hundreds of farms, towns and cities. It is called the Blue Route, a scenic road that takes you to the largest Natural Museum on Earth…

Fossils and petrified marine organisms are proof of the past, while many species of mammals and birds show us the present. Both, are proof of only a very small portion of this region's underworld that mankind has still to discover.

Along the coast of the Argentine Sea, it is found the largest ecoregion in the country, inter-jurisdictional marine parks, Patagonian reserves and estancias in near contact with wildlife.   Be a part of it!

Expedition Itinerary

Our expedition leaders, born and raised in Patagonia, are three of the most recognized scientists in the world who have dedicated their lives to protecting this superb land and sea wildlife.

Buenos Aires has always been the meeting place where expeditionaries, biologists, naturalists got together to discuss and almost brag about their theories, which came from their expeditions mainly performed in Patagonia.

We will walk through the Recoleta neighborhood and the Botanical GardenSan Telmo, Plaza de Mayo, and La Boca, and of course, enjoy the cultural side of the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, with a visit to a Tango house.

Fly to Trelew, and then drive through the mesmerizing Patagonian Steppe, to El Pedral lodge, which will be our home for the next three days, and which is located in Punta Ninfas, one of the extreme sides that form the mouth of the Nuevo Gulf, which is part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve.

We will be welcomed by an amazing person and renowned scientist, who has dedicated his life to study the Penguins and their behaviour and has been a protagonist in the creation and conservation of the El Pedral Magellanic Penguin Reserve. We'll visit the Penguin Colony, reach their nesting area, help clean the beaches and enjoy an amazing dinner.

We will head to the Dos Pozos area, where we will spend the day in the company of Elephant Seals. We will be led by a scientist, veterinarian and specialist in these incredible mammals. She will surprise us with anecdotes and information about these huge animals, their behaviour, characteristics and much more. And at night, we will be amazed glazing at the immense Patagonian skyline, with the company of our expert astronomer.

On our way to Puerto Piramides we'll make a stop to meet our expedition scientist who has more than 40 years studying Whales and large marine mammals. Our first approach to whales will be very special, not only because it will be led by this incredible specialist, but also because it will be during sunset, which will give us privacy and an amazing opportunity to enjoy our encounter with these fabulous mammals.

Upon disembarking, we will visit Playa Larralde, located just 15 km from Puerto Piramides on the San Jose Gulf. The Diaz Family, pioneers in artisanal fishing, will be waiting for us to board their boat and learn about this long family tradition. Back at the beach, we will enjoy a feast with an undisrupted view of the Patagonian sea.

Our next adventure, will be led by our sea kayak expert and guide, Pablo Passera, Once arriving at Villarino Beach, in the small San Jose Gulf, kayaking and trekking will be the highlight of the day - if the whales allow it, we will have the possibility of rowing near them and watching them very closely. At noon, the break will be marked with a magic picnic lunch by the sea.

Now, we will head south, towards the Town of Camarones, declared an Authentic Town by the National Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Around noon, we will stop at Cabo Raso to have a light brunch overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and then have a short but entertaining and full of history walking tour with our local host.

We will navigate to Bahía Arredondo, on the coast of Estancia El Sauce, crossing the waters of these lesser explored coastal regions, passing by islets, islands and coves, where without a doubt the geography and fauna will leave us breathless on more than one occasion. The sunset will find us travelling 30 kilometres between the estancia and the city of Camarones.

At Estancia El Sauce, our guide will take us to its most fantastic corners, we will walk along trails observing the geological formation and scars left by the passage of time.

All these, and much more...

Patagonia, who would think of going to such a place? But ... the cannibals are going to eat you! …What the hell makes you choose such a quirky part of the world? …What can be the attraction? No one has been there before ....

The answer was contained in the very words of the question.
